Porsche at the pub event

“Old School” and proud of it

The days of the mechanic are numbered. If you were able to wander into a main dealer’s workshop (which, of course you can’t), you would find the engine shop had been replaced by a pallet rack; and the mechanical, thermodynamic, hydraulic and electrical skills have been replaced with computer diagnostics and timed checklists. These days key components or engines aren’t stripped, checked and mended, they are thrown away and replaced whole. Often this adds up to a great deal for the main dealer, as technicians with limited understanding replace parts that just don’t need replacing while they try to find what the problem is.

In many ways, Dave Dennett is someone born out of step with the times we live in (and we’ll be making no apology for this). To Dave, the cars we look after are things you mend using a solid understanding of how they really work, a sympathetic spanner hand and an empathy with the whole machine. This can’t be done when you just start with a computer and stack of job cards. At DSD motorwerks there is no intermediate receptionist, workshop customer dialog technician, service manager and workshop foreman between you and the person doing the work. You will be talking to person who also holds the tools.

Our approach to you and your car

While real mechanics like us may smell of Castrol R now and again, we also won’t be wrapped in an expensive suit while trying to make you believe it’s sensible to be paying over £150 an hour to change your oil. We, as old school mechanics, are very happy to honestly discuss your car, what you want addressed and any price constraints you’re working to so you’ll know your car is properly looked after and you are getting real value for money. Wherever possible, all the parts we fit are genuine Porsche. There are some exceptions, particularly with modified engines but you’ll be kept fully in the picture every step of the way.

We should also mention that we do know our way around a machine shop and can manufacture some parts in-house. And, to quite deliberately point out that some of our equipment is out of the ark; that’s because if you want to re-calibrate a 1960′s distributor you absolutely need the 1960′s syncograph technology to match.
