356 Variants

The 356 is where the greatest sports car of all time (the 911, of course), started. With a total production run of over 75,000 cars between 1948 and 1965, it’s estimated that around half of the 356′s ever made still survive. There were three model variants (A, B and C), preceded by the ’356′ variant with no model suffix. These are simply known as the ‘pre-A’ cars. Of these originals, there were just 7,627 until the ’356A’ was introduced 1955.
We’ve worked on many 356′s over the years and raced a few too, as you’ll see from various pictures scattered across the website. The picture above is, of course, yet another of what we like to call “our cars” (that is, one’s where we’ve got our hands dirty) and is a late (1954) ‘pre-A’ example which has had a full nut and bolt restoration. Incidentally, this is the same car that’s hiding in the spray booth, on our restorations page.
We hope this gives you a taste of our experience with 356′s. Why not get in touch with us to discuss how we might help restore or maintain yours to the ‘right’ standard.
